Agent, vault, file, and skill mentions

Hand the model exactly the memory, files, and agents a turn needs.

Overview

What Agent, vault, file, and skill mentions does

Mentions let you hand the model precise context instead of hoping retrieval finds it. Type @ in the composer and a menu offers agents, vault entries, topics, local files, folders, and saved skills. Each pick becomes a visible chip in the input, so you can see and remove exactly what a turn will carry before you send it.

The distinction matters: a vault or file mention pins specific context, while an agent mention creates an explicit route that runs that CLI for the turn. Mentions are tracked as structured tokens, not scanned from raw text, so 'ask Codex' in prose never triggers orchestration by accident. Slash commands stay separate for invoking skills, keeping mentions focused on the context a message should include.

Why it matters

The payoff for your AI memory

Pin exact context

Mention a specific entry, topic, file, or folder when general retrieval is too broad, so the turn uses precisely the memory you mean.

Visible, removable chips

Every mention shows as a chip in the composer, making it obvious what context and which agents a message will use before you send.

Intentional agent routing

Agent mentions are explicit tokens, so a coding CLI only runs when you deliberately chip it in — never from a stray word in your prompt.

How it works

From first launch to reusable memory

  1. 1

Type @ in the composer to open the mention menu.

  2. 2

Pick an agent, vault entry, topic, file, folder, or skill.

  3. 3

Review the chips that appear in the input.

  4. 4

Send the turn with exactly that context and routing attached.

FAQ

Common questions

What can I @-mention in 1AIVault chat?

Detected agents, vault entries, topics, local files, folders, and saved skills. Each becomes a context chip that scopes the turn to what you selected.

Does mentioning an agent send it my message?

Yes — an agent mention is an explicit route that runs that local CLI for the turn, distinct from vault or file mentions, which only attach context to the model.
